When the Bible addresses any subject, that is the final and authoritative word on that subject. Here are some passages from the Word of God on the issue of pro-life.
Genesis 1 Let Us make mankind in Our image, according to Our likeness … So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. This teaches us that every human being is created in the image of God. Therefore every human being is God-like, sacred, and has inherent dignity and worth.
Job 31 If I have been unfair to my male or female servants when they brought their complaints to me, how could I face God? What could I say when he questioned me? For God created both me and my servants. He created us both in the womb. This teaches us about God’s role in creating every human being, affirming the equality and value of all life formed in the womb.
Psalm 139 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. This psalm, written by King David, celebrates God’s intimate involvement in the formation of life in the womb, emphasizing God’s involvement in the life of an unborn child. It teaches us that God has a plan for the life of every human being before that person is born. Therefore we must not kill that life growing in the womb.
Jeremiah 1 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. In this passage, the Lord reveals His foreknowledge of Jeremiah and His purpose for Jeremiah before his birth. It reveals that the Lord formed Jeremiah in his mother’s womb. The Lord has a plan for the life of every person before birth and forms that life in the womb, so we must not abort that life in the womb.
Isaiah 49 Listen to me, all you in distant lands! Pay attention, you who are far away! The Lord called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name … He formed me in my mother’s womb to be his servant, He commissioned me to bring Israel back to him. This is a prophecy about the Messiah and from the Messiah – before Yeshua was born. The Son of God is teaching us that the Father’s purpose for Him existed before His birth, thus emphasizing the sacredness and importance of life in the womb.
Luke 1 Around the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her – and that child in her womb was John the Baptist, a cousin of Yeshua and a great prophet and the very special forerunner of King Messiah – and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. John the Baptist, who was a baby in his mother’s womb, was able to experience the emotion of joy in the womb. This teaches us that in the womb of every mother is a person, a real human being – not mere fetal tissue.
Galatians 1 Before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Yeshua to the Gentiles. God had a purpose for Paul before he was born. Then, after he was born, God revealed Himself to Paul, and Paul went on to accomplish the purpose had for him before he was born. This teaches us that God has a purpose for every human being before they are born. To kill a baby in the womb is an evil attack on God’s purpose for that person’s life.
Proverbs 24 Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve. These verses teach us that we have a moral obligation to prevent harm to vulnerable lives in danger. And God will hold us responsible for our inaction to protect those vulnerable lives. We can’t excuse our inaction by claiming, “we didn’t know.” And the most vulnerable lives are the lives of babies in the womb who can do nothing to protect themselves.
Tens of millions of the most vulnerable lives have been unjustly killed in the United States by abortion. Something like one million more will be killed this year. What action are you taking?
The least you can do is pray that abortion comes to an end, vote against abortion, speak out against abortion and try to persuade others that each life in the womb is a person designed by God and must be protected.
